Make your own Ubuntu!

Have you ever wanted to skip dealing with all the updates, drivers, and setting up your ubuntu? Well, now you can with remastersys, a ubuntu live cd maker that makes an ISO (A Virtual Cd) of your current Ubuntu install.

Requirements:

  1. Not a Linux Beginner
  2. Remastersys
  3. Ubuntu Minimal Disc (You can use hardy normal disc)
  4. Ubuntu already installed (I wont tell you how to do this)
  5. About 2 hours of your time

Getting Remastersys

First you will need to get remastersys. To acquire it you will first need to go to your terminal. You can go to your terminal by going Applcations>Accesorries>Terminal. In the terminal type:

sudo -s

echo “deb http://www.remastersys.klikit-linux.com/repository remastersys/” >> /etc/apt/sources.list

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install remastersys

It is now Installed!

Getting Ubuntu Minimal CD

First you will need to get it off of https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/MinimalCD.Now Extract it.

Ubuntu Guide

Before I tell you how to do this, I will tell you a few things:

  1. I might say to copy it to %cdrom% and when I say that I mean the path where you mounted your ubuntu minimal or hardy cd.
  2. I might say /home/yourusername which is where you type your username where it says typeyourusername.
  3. This takes TIME

sudo -s

mount -o loop -t iso9660 <path to iso without the <> > <mountpoint (Usually /media/cdrom)>

cp /media/cdrom/* /home/yourusername/livecd/livecd

sudo apt-get install squashfs-tools

sudo modprobe squashfs

cd /home/yourusername

mkdir livecd

cd livecd

mkdir cd

mkdir squashfs

mkdir custom

cp %cdrom%/* /home/yourusername/livecd/cd

cd /home/yourusername/livecd/cd/casper

mkdir /media/ISO

mount -o loop -t squashfs filesystem.squashfs /media/ISO

cp /media/ISO/*  /home/yourusername/livecd/squashfs

cp /media/ISO/* /home/yourusername/livecd/custom

cd custom

chroot .

Begin Editing this install!

Once you finish type:

remastersys dist imagename.iso and it will build the iso.

The directories and the names of the iso can be changed as you wish but you must follow everything else
